At a meeting coordinated by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY) on Friday, October 16th 2015, a multi-stakeholder approach to Internet governance was discussed.
India recently declared its commitment to such an approach and pursuant to the above declaration and as a part of a series of ongoing multi-stakeholder discussions, DeitY, the Indian Ministry of Communications, and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) conducted a multi-stakeholder consultation to discuss a number of things including the review by the General Assembly of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society.
The meeting was attended by stakeholders from different areas including business, civil society, academia, and technical community. “The discussion touched upon issues related to the priorities for India at the global level inter alia digital divide, ICT for development, human rights, Internet Governance, Enhanced Cooperation, and follow up, review and implementation of WSIS action lines.”
The discussion was concluded with a call for Indian stakeholders to actively participate in the WSIS+10 Review process.
